Wow! Pregnancy was almost complete and I hadn’t gone to any Dr.s appointments. I was taking care of myself and feeling great about it. Everything was going great. I was done working, my two days a week, by 6 months. It was great to be able to not be working, being pregnant is plenty to deal with on its own. We did have to move though, which was very stressful and physical for me to be dealing with so close to birth. Most of my 3rd trimester was spent trying to figure out where we were going to be moving to.
We had to move by the 1st of February and baby was due the end of February. I was stressing, very pregnant, and hormonal. Here we were planning a home birth, had to move, and couldn’t find a place to move to. My mom said I could stay with her, but there wasn’t room for the whole family. My partner’s mom said we could stay with her, but I couldn’t do that, not with birth so close. There were already a lot of people staying with her. Our friends had 2 rooms for rent in their 4 bedroom house, but I didn’t want to be around anyone when I was in labor. I didn’t know how other people would react to a woman in labor with no professionals around. This was my birth and nothing was going to jeopardize that. I needed privacy, I take birth secret number 1 very seriously. I couldn’t be around people at such a vulnerable time. It had to be just us, not even my mom was invited. I would be calling the shots and I didn’t want to deal with anyone else’s energy when labor came.
It was late January and we still hadn’t found a new place to live. You know what we did? We bought an RV. A 1996 Damon Daybreak, 31 ft. long. My partner put some work into it and we parked it on a friends property. We had full hook-ups; electricity, toilet, hot water, and beds. I cried about it but it came with everything we needed on top of having our own space for when baby came. And baby was coming sooner than we thought.
